Nevada cannabis employee training requirements

Nevada requires every cannabis establishment to train each agent before that person begins to work or volunteer. All agents learn security controls, emergency procedures and cannabis law, and sales facility agents also learn products, impairment, ID checks and refusing sales. The CCB sets no hours, and we found no CCB approval process for these courses. Keep required documentation for at least 5 years, since documented training can count in your favor if the CCB investigates.

What the training has to cover

  • Proper use of the establishment's security measures and controls to prevent diversion, theft or loss
  • Procedures for responding to an emergency
  • State and federal cannabis laws and regulations
  • Sales facility agents: cannabis strains and ways of using cannabis products
  • Sales facility agents: recognizing abuse, impairment or instability in a consumer, and how THC affects the body
  • Sales facility agents: required warnings and literature for consumers
  • Sales facility agents: refusing entry or sales to prohibited persons, checking IDs and spotting fake or altered IDs
  • Sales facility agents: preventing public consumption and use by people under 21, handling disturbances, and the establishment's diversion prevention plan, plus the role of law enforcement and applicable state and local laws

Does the course need state approval?

The CCB regulations put the training duty on the cannabis establishment. We found no CCB list of approved courses for general agent training. Agents still need a CCB agent registration card, which a course certificate does not replace.

Records to keep

Keep copies of any documentation the cannabis rules require for at least 5 years after the date on it (NAC 678B.259).

Why it matters at inspection

When the CCB decides discipline, it must consider mitigating circumstances under NRS 678A.647. One of them is regular, documented employee training given before an investigation began.

How our courses fit

Nevada Cannabis Workforce Training (Learn Brands). About four hours online on federal and Nevada law, the CCB and agent cards, purchase limits, ID checks and refusing sales, keeping minors out, privacy, security, seed-to-sale tracking, delivery, incident reporting and emergency response. It covers the law side of the training. Your own security and emergency procedures, product knowledge and systems still need store training, and we found no CCB course approval.

Nevada training questions

When do new Nevada cannabis agents need training?

Before they begin to work or volunteer at the establishment.

Does the training have to be CCB approved?

We found no CCB approval for general agent training. The establishment is responsible for providing it.

How many hours of training are required in Nevada?

The regulations set topics but no minimum hours.

Is a training certificate the same as an agent card?

No. Only the CCB issues agent registration cards. A course certificate shows training, not registration.

How long do we keep training records?

Keep copies of documentation the rules require for at least 5 years after the date on it, under NAC 678B.259.
