Arizona cannabis employee training requirements

Arizona requires every marijuana establishment to train its facility agents under a written policy that covers the state's adult-use law and the ADHS rules. ADHS sets no hours, no new-hire deadline and no approved course list. You must review your policies at least once a year and keep required documents for at least 12 months. Medical dispensaries also need yearly training from their medical director.

What the training has to cover

  • Arizona's adult-use marijuana law (A.R.S. Title 36, Chapter 28.2) and the ADHS rules in A.A.C. Title 9, Chapter 18
  • The establishment's own policies and procedures for the agent's job
  • Medical dispensaries: patient confidentiality training, under the dispensary's written policy (R9-17-310)
  • Medical dispensaries, from the medical director: giving patients information on risks, benefits and side effects, helping patients rate their symptoms, recognizing signs of substance abuse, and refusing medical marijuana to someone who appears impaired

Does the course need state approval?

ADHS does not approve or list training courses. Each establishment writes its own training policy, which must cover the adult-use law and the ADHS rules, and chooses how to deliver it. An outside course can support that policy but does not replace it.

Records to keep

Keep copies of any documentation the ADHS rules require for at least 12 months after the date on the document, and give copies to ADHS on request.

How our courses fit

Arizona Cannabis Workforce Training (Learn Brands). About four hours online on federal and Arizona law, the facility agent license, purchase limits, ID checks and refusing a sale, privacy, security and incident reporting and emergency response. It gives your written training policy a ready-made law module. It does not cover your own procedures or the medical director's training, and ADHS does not approve courses.
